About BankToBooks
BankToBooks is a web tool that converts bank and credit card statements into files bookkeeping software can import: Excel, CSV, QuickBooks (.qbo Web Connect), OFX and Xero CSV. It went live in August 2026. The idea behind it is simple: a converter should prove its output, not just claim an accuracy percentage, so every conversion is checked against the balances printed on the statement.
Why it exists
Catch-up and cleanup bookkeeping runs on old PDF statements: the bank feed only reaches back about 90 days, and the client is a year behind. The existing converters mostly handle that, but the complaints about them repeat: credits that expire, charges for failed conversions, separate products per file format, and no way to tell whether a row was misread until the reconciliation doesn't close. We built BankToBooks around those complaints. Pages roll over, failed conversions cost nothing, there is a free tier of 25 pages a month, and every result is reconciled before you download it.
How conversions are checked
The opening balance plus every transaction must equal the printed closing balance, and where the statement prints a running balance, each row must agree with it. A row that breaks the chain is flagged, not quietly exported. The full method, including what it can and can't catch, is on the accuracy page. What happens to your file, and when an AI model is involved, is on the security page.
How our guides are written
- Sources first. Menu paths and rules for QuickBooks, Xero and SBA forms come from Intuit, Xero and SBA.gov documentation, checked when the guide is written. Where a product changes, we update the guide and its date. In October 2026, for example, we rewrote our ProperSoft comparison after ProperSoft merged its converters into one app.
- Competitors described from their own sites. Comparison posts state what each tool offers as of the date shown, and they say plainly where another tool is the better choice.
- Disclosed interest. We make a converter, and every guide that mentions ours says so.
- Not advice. We are a software company, not a CPA firm. The guides cover file conversion and bookkeeping mechanics, not tax, accounting or legal advice.
All guides are listed on the guides page. If you spot something wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.
What we don't have yet
We are new. There is no SOC 2 report yet, and we don't export IIF or Quicken QIF files. If either is a requirement for you, another tool is the right choice for now.
